Is Graveyard Keeper 2 multiplayer or co-op?

No. Graveyard Keeper 2 is a single-player game, full stop. There is no online co-op, no local split-screen and, since there is no multiplayer to cross, no crossplay. The Nintendo and PlayStation listings both say one player.

Nothing on the horizon changes that. The official roadmap posted on October 2, 2026, lists balance and automation work (more Faith from sermons, movable workstations, zombie helpers for Kilns and Furnaces, a rework of Panic Reduction) and says nothing about co-op. No paid DLC or content update has been announced either. Your corpses, your church, your debts: all yours alone.

Is Graveyard Keeper 2 on Game Pass?

No. It is not part of Xbox Game Pass or PC Game Pass, and the Microsoft Store record lists no subscription that includes it.

Game Pass members can stream it through Xbox Cloud Gaming, but only once they own it, and the Xbox store lists no Play Anywhere support, so buying on Xbox does not unlock the Windows version. The release and platforms guide has the details.

Is Graveyard Keeper 2 on Switch and Switch 2?

Yes, on both, since launch day (September 22, 2026). The two Nintendo versions are separate products at the same price, so pick the one that matches your console.

Both are $24.99 and play in TV, tabletop and handheld modes with cloud saves. A launch review found the original Switch slow and choppy in busy scenes while the Switch 2 version ran smoothly, so Switch 2 owners should buy the Switch 2 version. Download sizes, text languages and patch levels are in the release and platforms guide.

Keeper's Note: Nintendo patches arrive late

Steam got 1.007 on September 28 and 1.008 on October 2. On October 1 the developer promised 1.007 for PS4, Switch and Switch 2 the following week. Until it lands, several fixes are missing there, including the Crematorium, Study Table, iron delivery and chest stack loss bugs. The known issues page lists what to avoid in the meantime.

Does Graveyard Keeper 2 use AI art?

The developers say no. Their official FAQ states that Graveyard Keeper 2 contains no AI-generated content, and the Steam store page carries no AI disclosure.

The accusation is real, though. Some players say the illustrated slides in the cutscenes look AI-generated. A thread asking Valve to investigate drew 124 replies on the game’s Steam discussion board, and the claim turns up in more than one in ten of the most helpful negative English reviews, against about 3% of positive ones. A post from an account linked to Lazy Bear’s co-founder and technical director, Slava Cherkasov (though not formally identified as his), added that the team does not use AI on the game, that the studio has about eight artists, and that he experiments with AI privately.

We report the claim and the denial; we have no evidence either way. For the record, the credits name a lead artist, Pavel Malakhov, and the game’s 3D world was built to keep the look of the first game.

How long does it take to beat Graveyard Keeper 2?

Plan for around 40 hours if you play the story with a fair amount of side content, and more if you chase every system. The game is young, so treat every number below as early.

Measure Time
Demo (the opening, up to the first Town battle) 3 to 4 hours (developer estimate)
Typical playtime behind the most helpful English Steam reviews About 25 hours
Story plus side content, first two logged runs About 40 hours (40 h 12 min)
Steam players who had finished the story by October 5 4.3%
The first game, for scale 46 h main story, 57 h with extras, 73 h for everything

Finishing the story unlocks the achievement The End of the Journey, and the platinum trophy, Professional Keeper, is a much longer road. What stretches a run is mostly the mid game: Faith gating research and travel, most Town battles waiting for Sloth (one day in a six-day week), and production chains that want babysitting. The walkthrough keeps the story moving, and tips and tricks saves hours of walking.

Graveyard Keeper 2 review scores

Scores as of October 5, 2026:

Where Score Detail
Steam, all languages 75.8% positive, Mostly Positive 6,244 of 8,237 reviews
Steam, English 78.6% positive 2,639 of 3,358 reviews
Top critics 81/100 average 7 top critics; 78% of 27 critics recommend it
PC critics 72/100 average 9 reviews: 4 positive, 4 mixed, 1 negative
PlayStation Store 3.94/5 1,041 ratings
Microsoft Store About 4/5 66 ratings
GOG 4.2/5 38 verified owners
Steam demo (before launch) 88% positive 608 of 689 reviews

The Steam score moved a lot in two weeks. It opened at 93% positive on launch day, sat at 84% (“Very Positive”) on September 24, then slid as players reached the mid game, down to a daily low of 60% on October 1. After update 1.008 and the roadmap on October 2, daily reviews recovered to 72 to 75% positive.

What players praise and what they complain about

Praised Criticised
Dark humour and writing Grind and chores, especially after the first 15 to 20 hours
Full English voice acting Faith needed for research, travel and skills while sermons are limited
The story and its mystery Zombie Panic penalty and the Faith cost of the PR Machine
The 3D world and its look Kilns and Furnaces collected batch by batch
Deep, interlocking systems and the automation payoff Unskippable cutscenes and saving only by sleeping
Battles as a break from the loop Bugs, soft-locks and memory build-up in long sessions
Faster movement and gentler early pacing Storage pressure and poorly explained systems

Is it worth it? If the first game’s loop of burying, crafting and haggling made you happy, the sequel adds a Town to rebuild, a zombie army and underground factories on top, and about three in four Steam reviewers recommend it. If grind wears you down fast, wait for the roadmap changes or plan around the pain points with the zombies guide, the factory guide and the sermons and Faith guide.

How much does Graveyard Keeper 2 cost?

$24.99 or €24.99 on every platform, and £22.49 on Steam in the UK. There is one edition only, a one-time purchase with no microtransactions and no paid DLC announced.

  • PlayStation: one purchase covers PS4 and PS5.
  • Xbox: one purchase covers Xbox One and Series X|S.
  • Nintendo: Switch and Switch 2 are sold separately.
  • PC: Steam, GOG (DRM-free) and the Epic Games Store, same price.
  • Bundle: The Grave Deal on Steam pairs the first game with the sequel for an extra 20% off: $35.98 instead of $44.98 when neither is on sale.
  • Pre-order bonus: the Sauna building and a store-coloured outfit came only with pre-orders on Steam, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo. They are not sold and support will not add them later.

Regional prices, unlock times and the full bonus story are on the release, platforms and price page.

What languages does Graveyard Keeper 2 support?

Eleven languages for text and subtitles: English, French, German, Spanish (Spain), Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese (Brazil), Russian, Simplified Chinese and Turkish. The Nintendo listing shows ten, without Turkish. Traditional Chinese is not supported, whatever some listings say.

Only English is voiced. Story scenes and most dialogue have full English voice acting, and a setting switches back to the classic mumbling voices. Subtitles are always on and cannot be turned off.

Can you play Graveyard Keeper 2 with a controller?

Yes. On Steam it has full controller support, DualShock and DualSense included. On PC the game works with XInput pads, the DualShock 4 and a wired DualSense, and it needs no timed inputs.

Two limits: the controller layout is fixed (one preset, no button remapping), and there is no colourblind mode. Keyboard keys, by contrast, can all be rebound except Esc, and combat can be played one-handed with the mouse.

Does Graveyard Keeper 2 work on Steam Deck, Linux or Mac?

Steam Deck: yes, Verified. Valve tested it on launch day and it passed all four checks; the Steam Machine rating is Verified too. Verified does not mean flawless: uncapped, outdoor areas dipped to the mid-30s in pre-release testing. A 30 FPS cap on the Low preset keeps it steady, for about 4 hours of battery on a Deck OLED. The full profile is in the system requirements.

Linux: no native build, but the Windows version runs through Proton, which is exactly what the Deck does. Mac: no macOS version. Mobile: none. GeForce NOW support is not confirmed. The same page covers PC specs and every setting.

How do you save in Graveyard Keeper 2, and where are the save files?

You save by sleeping in your bed in your Home, at the Inquisition Base. There is no manual save, so a crash after a long day loses everything since you last slept.

On PC the saves sit in a Lazy Bear Games folder under AppData\LocalLow, and Steam Cloud keeps a copy on Steam. GOG has no cloud saves for this game, so copy the folder yourself; Switch and Switch 2 use Save Data Cloud. The known issues guide has the exact path, the backup routine and the demo-save transfer.

Keeper's advice

Sleep often, and restart the game every few hours: performance degrades in long sessions on every platform. Before a risky story step, sleep, quit and copy the save folder.

Are there mods for Graveyard Keeper 2?

Yes, on PC, and plenty. Within two weeks of launch the Steam Workshop held 173 items, and outside Steam at least 279 mods had been shared, with 592,467 downloads between them (counts from October 5). The scene is built on BepInEx 5.4.23.5, a community mod loader, and the GK2 Mod Framework adds an in-game Mods menu. Every mod here is for the PC version.

The most popular mods tell you which vanilla annoyances bother players most:

Popular mod What it targets
No More Running Back (about 24,000 Workshop subscribers) Walking back and forth
Better Item Stacks Small stack sizes
Bigger Inventory - 40 Slots Backpack space
Better Auto Crafting Auto-crafting
Shared Storage Storage spread across separate chests
Move Buildings Built workstations cannot be moved (a fix is on the roadmap)

The developers support one kind of mod directly: replacement voice-over packs, through a ModdingTools/VoiceOvers folder in the game files with a list of the 4,720 voiced lines. tinyBuild’s official modding rules forbid malicious code, redistributing game files, unlocking unreleased content and passing a mod off as the base game. PC cheat tables also exist; we have not tested them, so back up your save first. The mods guide covers where to find them, how to install BepInEx and what they can cost your save.

Do I need to play the first Graveyard Keeper first?

No. The sequel tells its own story, set eight years after the first game. A Keeper wakes chained in the Inquisition Dungeon, escapes a zombie-filled Town, gets mistaken for an Inquisitor and is handed an abandoned camp with a graveyard and a morgue. Several characters return, but most of the cast is new, and reviewers found the early game gentler than the original’s. Veterans will recognise the loop at once; newcomers should expect a lot of systems to learn.

Who is the new Keeper? (story spoiler)

He is not exactly the first game’s hero: the developers point to the first game’s Stranger Sins DLC. The Old God split the Keeper in two, and you play the other half, blamed for the zombie outbreak that the first Keeper set in motion.

Not the same as in Graveyard Keeper 1

Many search results still answer questions about the first game. In Graveyard Keeper 2 your talking skull is Larry, not Gerry; fast travel uses Milestones, not the Teleportstone; red skulls are what you want on a zombie; and the week has six days. The what’s new page lists every change, and the weekly calendar explains the six-day week.

Question Answer
When did it come out? September 22, 2026 (Epic Games Store: September 23). It is a full release, not early access
Who made it? Lazy Bear Games, published by tinyBuild, built in Unity 6
Is it pixel art? No. It is a 3D world with a fixed camera, styled to look like the first game
Age rating? ESRB T, PEGI 16, USK 16
How many achievements? 38 on Steam and Xbox (1,000 Gamerscore), 39 trophies on PlayStation including a platinum
Is the demo still available? No, it was pulled at launch. Its save carries into the full game, and since 1.006 demo milestones unlock Steam achievements
Latest version? 1.008 on Steam (October 2); consoles and GOG lag behind, see the patch notes
Is it still being updated? Yes: a launch hotfix and four updates (1.005 to 1.008) in ten days, plus a roadmap without dates
Is there cross-save between platforms? Not confirmed. One launch review reports that a save can be imported from one Nintendo version into the other
How do I report a bug? On Steam, the in-game bug reporter (main menu, top left, or the pause menu). On consoles, tinyBuild’s support form with a screenshot or video
Is there a Sauna for everyone? No, the Sauna was a pre-order bonus. Its Steamed Up buff can leave a lasting 10% cut to food energy, so it is no great loss

Every update so far is explained on the patch notes page. If you are new and ready to dig, the beginner guide starts on your first morning, when A New Beginning unlocks.

Common mistakes

  • Expecting to save anywhere. The bed is the only save button. Skip a night, crash, and everything since your last sleep is gone.
  • Buying the Switch version for a Switch 2. They are separate products at the same price, and the Switch 2 version ran better in a launch review that compared both.
  • Waiting for Game Pass. The game is not on it, and cloud play still needs a purchase.
  • Trusting GOG to back up your saves. Galaxy does not sync them. Copy the save folder yourself.
  • Following answers written for the first game. No Teleportstone, no Gerry, a six-day week: check that a guide is about Graveyard Keeper 2 before you build around it.
  • Marathon sessions. Memory builds up over hours of play; sleep, save and restart every few hours.
  • Modding without a backup. Apart from voice-over packs, mods and cheat tables are unofficial. Copy your save folder before installing anything.
  • Assuming consoles have the newest fixes. So far Steam has received every patch first; check the patch notes for your platform before a risky story step.
